FaB Club Review
I arrived late and look what I collared for the review, so here is my first attempt tee hee!

Well this takes me back, the guys Pete and Mark playing guitar were cool and John always gets well involved in his songs. The gang joined in with rattle and shakers, clapping along merrily. I do love Pete on the guitar, fantastic the way he moves his fingers along the tabs and frets (say no more). Well deserved round of applause followed. A comment “What’s wrong with my lap?” came from the audience?
Then came Bill
His Hoy at Anchor Folk Club song, say no more!!! Going Lame, never Bill I really enjoy the laughter that you get with his songs.

You don’t need to know the words you can guess the ones he passes and if he can go 15 times a night, well I am a vicar!!!
Someone wanted to know what rhymes with the”Hoy at Anchor”, typical FaB Club lot.
Next was Len, with guitar. Giving the excuse he was up till late playing the guitar? A Tim Harden song was first, Hang on to a Dream, lovely guitar playing again, we are a talented bunch are we not!?

What with the sun shinning this was a lovely song to play, well deserved round of applause. Next a Beatles oneFor No One (I think), as this is one I have not heard before, so the die hard Beatles fans were singing along.
A surprise Bill says, Fab Club Virgins all the way from Croydon, Bernie and Steve. A Hammer Dulcimer took the stage and they were amped up with guitar along side.
Miss Paterson was the first tune, and what a sound, brilliant makes such a change to see different instruments in the club. A very Spanish feel to the music, everyone started to tap away, reminds me of galloping horses across the plains. The tapping became clapping and bit of foot stomping. The guitar playing was first class as well. More, More, More please. A Harp Tune from
Before the break came Ron, and what looks like a new guitar! R E O Speed Wagon song was his first tune, Keep on Loving You. I love this guy, still playing and singing well after all these years. Clapping, foot stomping (though softly) and joining in was the name of the game there.
Country and Western next, Started Loving You Again, a nice tune to sway to. A great round of applause for Ron, which was very well deserve. What a lovely mix of genres this Sunday, not two people playing the same styles.
Second half, and Bill going on about a old group of men called The Zimmers and a documentary Young At Heart, saying that no matter what your age just be like us a group of people who enjoy music, though not all of us are that old Bill.
Anyway first is Ken, who’s had a strange experience this week with two young girls, but think we have already heard this one!!!! Ken, Claude’s birthday is next week dumpling, but we got a dummy run of Happy Birthday.

He started with My Cherie Amour, by Stevie Wonder, sing along everyone. After this he picked one out of his book or not (How Soon), after telling his joke again about Claudine!!!!
The one and only Claudine took the stage, with Mark accompanying after a minute’s practice (such skill). Mark went on about showing his if she shows him hers, don’t know what they were going on about! but!!!!

A classical tune for the Fab Club, Start A Fight, a wonderful voice with that beautiful French accent just like Claudine, join in now. Mark got carried away with the instrumental, but he’s so talented we will let him off this time. Now for the first time this is played in FaB Club, A Chance In Heaven, written last week (not saying what it’s about), well friendship that goes wrong, we’ve all been there. Let’s hope you don’t get too emotional, lovely soaring lyrics, accompanied by the harmonic made it special, Well Done Claudine.
Mark Reed comes next with Sunset Vision, plucking away on his guitar, very melancholic, a silent room (for a change).
Another new song!!!! With a Chorus to sing along with called In Times I Were, a war/folk song, this time the guys clapped and joined in, quite a catchy chorus, sounded a bit like What to do with A Drunken Sailor (the chorus that is).
More New Stuff, Liz the club’s poet, with half-finished stuff still in her head, this one was finished 3 hours ago A Thousand Things to See Before You Die, so hot off the press, basically saying we should enjoy life before it ends and not regret it. Lastly was from the Songs of Flanders and Swan, called the Gas Man Commeth, Ken was the backing tune and playing the role of the man throughout, with Ken never a dull moment, very different from Liz and a sharp finish to the intellectual content of the club.

Bill said her words were like treacle running down his back.
Before the second break Alan came on with his guitar and Heather was called to come in but was missing, think I lost the plot on that one. He was listening to Beatles this morning and Paul was going on about a girl called Heather, ah that was it, I got it in the end.

Also he noticed the bunny was getting drunk on the raffle prize getting lower every time. More brilliant plucking of the guitar from Alan, for a song about A Princess Sharon and a handsome Prince Kevin (well that never happens in this pub). So you can take it that this was quite a funny love song set in modern times with them riding away on a Vespa, getting giggles along the way, aptly called An Urban Fairy Tale. Following on was a new poem/song about being a funny lyric writer (which he is), titled That Was One of My Serious Ones, who wrote a serious song for once and got upset because the crowd laughed along, all he wanted was to be taken as a serious artist. Well we will one day Alan.
Next Sunday is Claudine’s Birthday, so don’t forget to come along early and bring a plate of food (NO SUAUSAGE ROLLS). Also if you have anything to give to the raffle for next week, don’t forget to bring that as well.
Third half, Bill takes the stage again with a song that we can sing along to the chorus again and do Do Waps (whatever). What can I say quite funny really about someone leaving a relationship with the refrain went astray in a joking kind of way. Think it is called Goodbye To You, and once we got the gist we came in with gusto, then it all went pear shaped. We needed a good laugh Bill, you never disappoint.
John Stafford took the floor with his harmonica, oh no it was his guitar, or Claudine’s should I say. Foot stomping here we come,
with C.C Rider a blues song lots of shaking going on there.

With a prolonging of agony (John’s words not mine) we were treated to another wonderful tune The Land of the Rising Sun, sing along time again if we could get the timing,
think John was in his own world with this one, ah got it in the end.
Mick n Nora got on with it starting with a Richard Thompson song and Mick had his legs out!!!! Which are available for hire. Ah a lovely gentle song called Dimming of The Day (again haven’t got a clue) if that’s the real title, sure they will point me in the right direction.

Paul McCartney song follows that soothing tune, called Dance Tonight again to me obscure but I am only young, again join in people, sway the afternoon away.
Well I (Sonia) took the stage with Claude, but I can’t write my own review so one of you lovely lot will have to do it for me. The first song was my new one called Born Again Butterfly, followed by Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Ed note: Sonia sang one of her own songs for the first time at FaB Club, a simple crafted and haunting number. She followed by an up-beat pop cover, which once again there are no limits to her talent and to the variety to acts we got this afternoon.
Lastly were Bernie and Steve, with a Waltz .As before these guys are fantastic, with their playing as if from heaven upon high, what a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment.
I wish I could pluck my guitar like that, sensational stuff.

A beautiful Melody followed with 3 tunes from different countries, ah is that
