Here is how the FaB Club wished Mike Parrott a happy birthday:
7th May...
It’s Mikey’s birthday party, 26 People present right from the start; roses and candles adorned every table and a lovely buffet available too. Mr. Parrott (senior) (John) introduced us to FabClub! 3 sessions, 2 intervals…

Simon Oliver recently won best solo performer at

Margaret needed no introduction – and she jumped straight in with “Mother what’ll I do now” on a cute little banjo/ukelele (can’t tell!).Little ditty and next up was Country Roads, and the whole room sang along to the chorus.[what a strange thing to be sitting in a room full of British (and French!) people singing about going to West Virginia –my guess is that they’ve not been!], but we all loved it and sang along.

Len’s up next with his guitar and a Van Morrison song that he heard on the radio at work on Friday “Oh the water – let it run all over me” – thank goodness it’s a lovely day – perfect way to spend an easy Sunday afternoon. Len’s next number is the ever-classic ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by the Beatles, and we are all singing again, all the verses too! (Incidentally I love this song, and quoted it in my High School yearbook – 15 years ago! Aack!! But thanks Len! Charlie (almost two now) is bouncing and swaying!

Brian, Barbara and David, they hail from
They continued with ‘Dey callin’ me back’, about a friend who wanted to return to Trinidad after coming to

(Rockin’) Bob – 22 years ago he and friends raised £8,000 to help the mining communities that were suffering. His admittedly “very controversial” song came with a warning label – “Ode to a Strike”. No-one left the room and we all clapped. Then he sang “Saving all my love for you” and Claudine starts singing along in the corner… just who is she thinking of?!

Moriarty is up with an accordion! Claudine is dancing a jig and if you look at the feet under the tables they’re all tapping! “Moon Over Water” is his second piece – an American waltz. Charlie has invented the hand motions that go along!

After the first of two intervals……………
Clive and James play the Police favourite “Message in a Bottle” and again we are singing along – speaking of bottle – wow- how young are these guys and they’ve got us all singing along? Very impressive! Uncle Mikey, grandparents, and parents are all beaming with pride (so is the crowd). “Start” by The Jam is their next tune. You would never guess that they were anything but seasoned veterans and the guys play ever so well together. Well done lads!

Joe (Migdal) on keyboard is next. Charlie is standing on Keith’s lap and dancing along to his terrific instrumental song. It’s lovely! Claudine, Margaret and friends are dancing at the back near the bar, just enjoying themselves.. “With a little help from my friends” is Joe’s next song and he’s invited us to sing along at the end – will we all be able to hold back? Nope. We’re singing. Tough luck! Great voice has our Joe and we’re all ‘helping’ sing, as his friends of course. That’s what friends are for - whoops, that’s another song!

The Cheeky Gulls – Claudine & Margaret: catchy little number with ‘the agony is your triumph’ Missed Lord of the Dance on guitars (reggae version)

Next were two ‘exotic dancers’; Margaret & Barbara as ‘Arabian Fantasy’. Honestly what country are we in anyway? Is this Morocco?

Jo-Jo just walked up next – and started singing. She had no instrumental accompaniment but suddenly the voices in the room joined in for her “Shallow, oh shallow Brown”. Big voice from such a small person & wow.
Martin, the ‘virgin’ to the FabClub started with a small tale about a Rabbi, a Priest and some pickled pork. You should have been there if you weren’t! One of those things you see. Well done, Martin.

Mikey the birthday boy; “Miss Her Enormously” an entertaining little tale – which Charlie got very into and actually dropped his trousers. I don’t know why, I can’t explain it, I’m just his Mom. Oh my god, my son’s a stripper! Now we’re given roles in the next song – older than Mike sing one part, younger sing “Have a banana” (I have to remember that bit). Mike’s not looking for a car, oh no, it’s a girl he’s searching for.

Great song – oh we can’t stop smiling. (Clare says Mike eats bananas at work regularly. Hmmm.) The Cheeky Gulls, in inimitable cheeky fashion, came out with three cakes and lots of candles. We all sang Happy Birthday and now we’re having a Cake Break!

After the break and the drawing of the raffle………

Claudine:- “The Raven and the Condor” – sweet, sweet little song. You know I think it would be a great lullaby. Aww! The song she wrote when she had pneumonia – “Waiting for

Mickanora:- “Down Where Drunkards Roam” Mick’s on guitar and Nora is playing what I think is a Piccolo! Frantic pick search! Traditional folk song about infidelity, murder, and featherbeds to cheer us up – Jojo is off singing along with them tucked away in the corner!

Steve O’Kane:- “Talking To The Moon”, the title track from his new CD! Talent comes with a capital T when you hear him! Wow. He’s come all the way from

Fiona:- Steve’s playing guitar for Fiona – that girl can sing! It doesn’t matter where you bury her. We’re all swept up into her song! Now the bleeding pub’s on fire! Everyone’s joining in again…

Then came a few extra (re)turns at Mikey’s request:
Joe:- Now how he can make the mandolin sing along with him – he is, you see, “A Bit Fat Sexy Man”!
Claudine:- She’s singing in French!, which leaves me unable to comment as to what on earth she is singing about. Sorry. I’m just taking down the notes. But everyone’s joining in for the
Mickanora:- Missed the title but it’s a sailor’s song! Land-lubbers lying down below…
Mike:- “
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKEY!
